And that I gladly do on a daily basis. Most of my friends who know me well will sometimes email me if there is something that they think I need to know. As a matter of fact, I did not know about 911 until 5pm that day and was told by my friend in Ireland as we chatted on Yahoo Messenger.

I have had friends in the past tell me that I need to be informed about what is going on in the world.........I usually reply "why should I want to know, I live in a beautiful world (except for the struggles of the outside world in regards to my disabled brother's care)". It has been difficult for me over the past 7 years in that regard, and I do not wish to add to it.

Living the Living/Raw food lifestyle and all the beautiful people that I have met over the past four years is where I wish to continue to be. They are the ones that help keep me balanced and in tune to life, not the death that we have come from. I can only see good in all that all of us are doing, and can see this spreading love and joy throughout eternity.......and more and more people joining on this path.

Re: There’s Nothing You Need to See on the News!

We don't watch any TV at all, in fact, don't have TV service, which we'd have to pay for to get anything in, here in the boonies where we live. I love not having TV! We do however, have Internet, so if we want to know what's going on, we can get it there, but usually avoid that as well, for all the reason's previously stated. Because of that, we aren't subjected to commercials either, which I also love. My kids (youngest 2 are 18 and 20) missed it at first, but they have their computers, and got used to it. We do watch DVD's, but we get to choose what we watch, and I love that!

Re: There’s Nothing You Need to See on the News!

I never watch the news. I kind of did about 3 years ago during the recent Lebanon-Israel war, and I couldn't stop crying (I could actually understand what the Lebanese people were saying, like "everyone's dead" and all that- plus my family was there). Whether I watch the news or not, it's not going to change what's happening. Instead I try to prevent bad things from happening at my level, and I try to promote politicians I like, like Dennis Kucinich. But news-wise... I have no clue what happens and I don't want to know.

Re: There’s Nothing You Need to See on the News!

Yes, like cooked food, I only watch the news if I'm at someone else's house. As far as being informed, I get my news from facebook or others will talk about things. If I really want to know more, I google it. In the Law of Attraction world I live in, I call that contrast. This allows me to be informed, yet really focus on the divine opposite, which is what I want.

Did that make sense?

Anyway, I take my negative news and flip it in order to decide what I want to focus on. H1N1 is killing people, . . . Raw food is saving people. See?

Peace and Love all,

Terri

Re: Is Alcohol Raw?

For me, I think distilled alcohol (like vodka or grain) has its place for making tinctures and the like. That said, I always let the alcohol evaporate off before I ingest said tincture.

A little over a year ago was the last time I ever drank, and without going into details, it was probably the worst day of my life, because I decided to have one of those, "Hey, I'll drink like back in college one last time, just for old time's sake!" moments.

That said, I think a beer or glass of wine or mead with dinner now and then is fine, but it's kind of easy to get in trouble after you have your second drink...which then leads to a third, which then leads to a fourth...and so on. I think that usually only happens when somebody has a "reason" to drink though, like being stressed from work or the like. It's easy to live under the illusion that drinking will make a problem go away (instead of actively working towards actual resolution).

So yeah, I think alcohol in moderation can be fine, just like most things. It's when it becomes an abusive relationship that one gets into trouble. I choose not to drink anymore, but I do have a lot of old homebrewing supplies lying around (from before I went raw), and I could easily see myself making a mead one day for the heck of it. It'd be all the better if I get my own bees and made it with their honey. Time to break out my beekeeping catalog! :)

Re: Meet Joe Prostko, Who Has Eaten Almost 50 Pounds of Raw Cacao in the Last Year!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments! I blew away most of my 80 excess pounds by just going raw, and kind of exercising on and off. I was exercising quite full-on for the past few months, but just recently took a hiatus mostly due to time constraints. Over the past week or so though, I noticed I am reorganizing my priorities so that I can still get my exercise in, as well as most everything else done.

I also recently made it through the audiobook of Born to Run (which I listened to while commuting to work), and I must say that really makes me want to get out there and run again. I recommend you give it a read if you haven't already, as it's a pretty interesting book. Heck, they even mention chia seeds as a great energy food, and more generally that people with plant-based diets seem to make the best runners!

Re: There’s Nothing You Need to See on the News!

I agree. The news isn't really all that worth watching, and I haven't watched it in years probably. I suppose it makes for semi-awkward conversations sometimes when I find out I don't know something "big" that happened, but oh well. It's always something bad anyways, like you said.

I believe I remember reading somewhere about how a "good news" channel was tried in the past, but that it failed. I think the reasoning was stated that it's because good news isn't filled with drama and heartache and all the rest, and that therefore it wasn't interesting to most. I do think there's a lot of people that feed on negative energy like that, but then there are those of us that realize we don't want or need it at all. I'm thinking at least part of the real reason "good news" programming failed is because the good people are already out in the world making great things happen, not spending time watching TV to see what everybody else is doing. I suppose the non-existence of a "good events" scanner also makes it harder to find good news to share. ;) Thoughts?

Re: Must We Exercise?

I have Lupus and am trying to reverse it by eating mostly raw, my blood tests are getting better and better with each test. My problem with excercising is the redundance of doing something repetively...my approach is gardening...gotta figure out something during the Winter though! :D

Re: Raw Food Live Blood Cell Analysis!

Wow, this is amazing! I saw Kevin Gianni do this on one of his shows. But I never thought about the possibility that healthcare practitioners might make it possible for raw meetup members to take advantage of this service at an affordable fee.

I've been to "spa days" at the homes of girlfriends -- manicures, mini-facials, massages, tarot card readings -- all for reduced fees. And of course, botox doctors have been doing it for years! But I had never heard of this in the natural health world. So many times I read about wonderful natural healing services that resonate with me and I research them (like colonics), but then because of cost I think "there is just no way" and file them away in my "no way" mental folder. But if I could avail myself of a therapy first at a "try me out" rate, and see that "hey this really would work for me" then I absolutely would find a way to do it. We just get so innundated with information, ads, blogs about so much that it becomes overwhelming.

This meetup with natural health practitioners is such a fantastic idea. And I hope the next one is in the Washington, D.C. area! Or better yet, Arlington, VA, where I live. One can only hope.

Re: Is Oil Bad For You?

RE: Oil & oconut ... Us, too. I didn't really get into the various kinds of oils available, although I was tempted to expand the piece to address that. I think we have a small variety that we use from time to time, but it's mostly olive and coconut. I think we got some hemp from Jeff Rose @ NaturalZing recently, and we may have a few other varieties in our fridge. BTW, I also shared some of the same reactions you stated above w/ respect to clarified oils.

Re: Is Oil Bad For You?

Agreed! It's awesome to be healthier now than we were years ago. I'm still getting back to my youth, I think. I have to recognize that it took me 20 years of poor health habits to get into the shape I got myself into, so it'll likely take me several years of raw before I'm at my peak again. But, I really do feel 10x better than I did 10 years ago! So, yeah, I don't like the petty squabbles.

Re: Is Oil Bad For You?

I liked your answer! I use oil too, mostly olive and coconut. It's been shown that on the Mediterranean diet, people are more heart healthy than in many other diets, and they eat lots of olive oil, olives, etc. as part of a healthy diet.

I don't know what the person meant by clarified oils. When we clarify olive oil, we just remove the pieces of pits and stuff, which isn't a big deal. Actually, I get a type of Lebanese olive oil that has sediments at the bottom, and I can't use all of it because of the grit. Clarifying can also mean heating at a somewhat high temperature (so, not raw) and that's definitely not good.

I don't remember reading this in the China Study though...?

Re: Is Oil Bad For You?

I really liked the way you "handled" these issues. I'm brand new to raw food, and small quibbles just don't impress me. To me it's like, . . . hey, . . . give me a break. I'm eating better than I ever have in my life! I'm healthier now at 44 than I was at 24.

For those readers that are so advanced they can afford to quibble about such things, more power to you. But for me and my house, . . . I'll take it if it's raw.

Re: Meet Joe Prostko, Who Has Eaten Almost 50 Pounds of Raw Cacao in the Last Year!

Great post....thanks guys!

Hugs, Tina

Re: Meet Joe Prostko, Who Has Eaten Almost 50 Pounds of Raw Cacao in the Last Year!

I always look forward to your blogs each day and I am never disappointed. That is absolutely awesome! I am dying here enjoying every minute of your attire AND interview! You will have to take that out to California and meet up with Steve and the two of you (he with his Costume), what a team you would both make! What a blast of Raw Cacao Chow!

I am having too much fun here (must have been my cacao smoothie this morning, and boy did I make it dark and yummy!) And your recipe, Joe? You make me look like a beginner! Now I put in quite a few of what you do......but will have to explore even further all the delightful things you add to it! This great stuff!

Oh, and thanks for mentioning me, neighbor! A good thing was that I grew up in France where usually alcohol = enjoyment with food, not getting drunk and leaving our reality. Then in college... College in France is like prison, we barely have time to sleep, let alone drink! I still drank a little, from time to time, but now that I'm high raw, I find I don't even enjoy it anymore. I remember when I was a young teenager, I told someone "I don't like alcohol, I like fruit juices". hah, it's still true :)

Re: Is Alcohol Raw?

I've only been raw for a few years (learned about it in 2006), but I haven't consumed alcohol for about 20 years - for the mental clarity and maintenance of my self-control. :D

Re: Is Alcohol Raw?

l do not drink alcohol, l haven't in about 14 years, and l am so glad!

Re: Who Is the Sugar Witch???

Great idea....will try that tonight or tomorrow....

Re: Who Is the Sugar Witch???

So fun!
